personality
Josephine is the kind of woman that doesn't take shit from anyone. She's strong, independent, and very intelligent. She's a bit impetuous, though, and it gets her into trouble sometimes. Thankfully she's got the street-smarts necessary to survive her little problem spots (mostly courtesy of her training with her father). She's friendly, with a dry sense of humor and a tendency to laugh at inappropriate moments. Her father's death left her with a few issues, though. Smoking is something she will not abide. She does not like seeing people slowly destroying themselves. And she has a bit of a hero complex. If she thinks she can help, she'll butt in there and do what she thinks is right - whether it's the best thing for the situation or not.

history
Jo was born to Zora and Charles Devereaux of New Orleans, Louisiana. Zora is currently a Vodun priestess, or "mamba" as they're known. She owns a Voodoo store in the French Quarter (named Ye Little Shoppe of Magicks) which Jo works in (and they live above). Charles was a hunter. He died two years ago of lung cancer, oddly enough.
Jo was raised to believe whatever made her feel the most comfortable, something made necessary by the often contradictory faiths of her parents. Her father trained her in all manner of weaponry and how to dispatch anything from a ghost to a demon, though after a particularly difficult mission with her father she elected to cut the field work and stick to researching them.
She had a brief but largely unsuccessful stint in college where she focused on religious studies. She didn't learn much that she didn't already know, but was willing to see it through until her father was diagnosed. After that, she felt obligated to continue his crusade. It took a bit of work, but she managed to amass a rather impressive library of magical, folklore, and mythological texts. She's known to be one of the people you call when you have no fucking clue what's going on.
